My name is Lynetta Laumea-Edward
and I am the Club manager and
Technical Director for Lepea Football Club.
Aside from general responsibility for the Lepea Samoa Football Club, Lynetta is equally accountable for promoting women in the sport. She is also responsible for promoting the club as a whole. She also works to ensure that all members of the club are treated fairly and with respect. In addition to her advocacy for women in sports, she is an active participant herself. Lynetta was able to represent the country, while also creating a positive image of the club and working with other organizations to bring more women into the sport.
Lynetta is also a certified grassroots and youth football Coach Instructor, Including Just Play Health & WASH Trainer, C Licence Coach, Special Olympics Athlete Mentor and Sports Coach.
When asked why Lynetta chose this career path, the strong mother of nine states:
"Because of my love of sports. Growing up in a sports family was an inspiration to me. I have always been inspired to use football as tool for development and make a difference in the lives of young children especially for women and girls in my community and around me. To become a better player, coach, administrator on and off the field. Representing my country in both netball (U17s) and football (soccer). Throughout my life, I've always wanted to succeed in both academics and sports. I now have children of my own, a daughter and 8 sons whom also are a part of my journey, they are now my inspiration and the reason why I do what I do."
Lynettas advice to young people pursuing her career path would be
Sports can improve your life because it teaches you team work, discipline and tenacity. Learn leadership, communication skills, life skills and develop self-esteem and resilience. You can pursue a career in the sports if you believe you have the passion.
If you are a mother, continue to make a difference and be an example for other women and girls in your community.
